Home Security – Keeping Your Garden Shed Safe and Secure

By

Keeping your garden and house secure is obviously very important as it is where you live and contains all of your valuables and treasures. There are many ways of keeping a house and garden safe such as security systems or cameras, fences and good lighting. However it is easy to forget about your protecting your garden shed or garage when focusing so much on keeping your house and garden secure. This is a silly thing to overlook as there can also be a lot of valuable possessions stored in a garden shed or garage.

Some garden sheds come with very flimsy doors when bought. These are very insecure and should absolutely be altered or replaced to make them harder to penetrate. There are a few different ways to do this. The easiest is just to fit a solid lock to the door which cannot be picked or broken easily, you could even have more than one lock on the door to make it really secure. Another way to make the door more secure would be to entirely replace it as well as the hinges and lock with stronger ones which would be hard to break.

Another weak point of garden sheds seems to be very skinny and weak glass windows. The easiest way to deal with these I find is to drill sheets of plastic to the wall inside the glass windows. Of course you could replace the glass windows entirely with plastic, however this is far more difficult and involves not only removing the glass windows but also cutting the plastic sheets to the exact size required for the empty window slots. As well as this, the glass looks nicer from the outside rather than having plastic which can develop creases and other imperfections.

Security systems can also be used to monitor garden sheds and garages but these are again the more expensive option. This being said, if what you are protecting is worth a lot either in monetary terms or personal terms then perhaps it is worth the investment to protect it. Security system reviews can help you choose the system for you should you choose to buy one.

Another more expensive option, but by far the most secure of them all is to build a garden shed or garage with good foundations out of concrete. Concrete walls coupled with secure and strong doors and windows are very hard to break into and will be very safe and secure to protect your valuables.
