Video: NATO Forces vs. Taliban
US troops aren’t the only ones involved in fighting the Taliban. Below is a series of pictures published by Norwegian armed forces, and a video from a helmetcam of close encounter fighting between Taliban and “the good guys”. In the soundtrack you can hear someone barking orders – they’re in Norwegian, so unless you know the language, they’ll be hard to understand. The prevailing order is “fire right”, and you can see it’s being obeyed.

The Taliban fighters in the beginning of the video are located behind a wall and in the bushes/trees directly ahead of the Norwegians, and the Taliban is taking heavy fire, though the Norwegians are pulling back for the time being.
Below; Norwegian armed forces have been in contact situations every third day, on average. The reason for the escalation in violence, according to Afghan sources and Norwegian military, is that the Afghanis are more confident in their progress, and thus engages the Taliban more frequently.
Below; Afghan troops are cooperating with international forces. Recent fighting have been varied, distances describes it well – encounter ranges varies between 50 and 2000 metres (click on the top picture for a close encounter video…).
Below; ISAF (Allied personnel) forces on patrol.
As of July 19th, the US military has identified 1.173 service members killed in the Afghan operation, and its related operations. This doesn’t take into account the death toll in allied forces.

The main goal for the military operation in Afghanistan has been, and is, that the country shall no longer be a safe haven for terrorists, terrorist training and terrorist ideals. The drug trade and the growing of opium is another part of the ongoing plan, but that is pushed back by the need to bring down the Taliban.
Several sources now say that both the US and other countries show a slight willingness to negotiate with the insurgent forces, thereby seeking a different path to achieving these goals.
