Car Alarms – What they should and shouldn’t do
Protecting the car is a priority for many people, but especially important (unfortunately) to those who have been the victim of car theft or a break-in. It’s a very bad feeling to come outside in the morning to find your car either gone or vandalized, valuables gone and what’s not valuable left broken.
A car alarm is one of the things that might prevent the theft of your vehicle, but in most cases it will not. Why? Because the sound of a car alarm is so ordinary at this point that the sound barely has any effect at all.
The key to an efective security device on your vehicle is to disable it, either by prevent the engine from starting in an electronic fashion, or by prevent access to the vehicle’s controls in a mechanical manner, such as anti thrft bars or mechanical blockages to brake-, clutch- or gas pedal operation.
Here is a small list of options to the standard, howling uselessness that is the normal car alarm. We’ll also be doing a dedicated page on car alarms and security in the near future – so don’t change the channel.
