Afghanistan Bans Private Military Contractors (PMCs)
PMCs have long been essential in several theaters, including in Afghanistan. The country announced today that it will ban PMCs from operating in the country, and has given existing companies a deadline of 4 months to leave the country, never to come back.
40.000 soldiers, officers and support personnel work in PMCs supporting the coalition in Afghanistan, and several military authorities are now worried about the security situation in the country, seeing that the Taliban is more and more active, recently arranging the first public execution since their fall from power.
General Petraeus has remarked on earlier occasions that a too hasty retreat from Afghanistan will hurt the country and the security situation in the region.
