Product Review: Canada Goose Expedition Parka

When it comes to parkas and cold weather jackets, Canada Goose has been the ultimate on the market for some years. While the Expedition Parka isn’t new, it’s been gaining some momentum in the last couple of years, being picked up not by quality minded private persons, but also by LE agencies both in and outside the US.

We’ve tested the parka for some time, and just in time for the cold weather season, the results are in. Here’s our review of the Expedition Parka. As usual, we’ll start with the specs;

These parkas are being used in the most hostile environments that we can get to on the planet, and there’s a good reason for that. Not a single time in the course of wearing one of these, even in -25 degrees C (-13 degrees F) have we been cold. In fact, in most cases we’ve had to pull the zipper down a little, because the down insulation is so effective that the inside of the parka is as warm as you’d expect a well heated living room to be.

The parka doesn’t retain any smell, and even if you’re not as fresh as you’d like to be after a day or night out on duty, there’s no need to worry – the parka will be just as fresh when you get back up after some well deserved rest, ready to put it back on.

Pockets and Velcro flaps work well, and they’re easy to operate even with your hands in thick gloves, and the Velcro stays good and doesn’t wear down, making sure that the pockets are really closed tight every time.

If there is one negative point to mention about Canada Goose and this parka, it is that there are so many counterfeits out there on the market that it can be difficult to tell the right one from the wrong. The main point is to make sure that you buy it from an authorized dealer, and that all the relevant paperwork you’d expect to accompany a 600-700 dollar purchase is present.
