Look Out – or down, rather

Apparently, a “gigantic” hole has opened up in the street of German town Schmalkalden – about 120k away from Frankfurt am Main.

A small town of about 20,000 souls, the inhabitants are, if we are to trust the news reports, afraid to look over the edge of the hole that suddenly opened in th ground, but it is thought to be about 20 meters deep, and opened up at about 0300 am this morning.

On the plus side, the town selectman says he’s going to order up a chopper to go ahead and look down the hole. That’s very nice of him. Especially since not even the police wants to go near the hole.

Now the only question that lingers is… what exactly do they think is down there that’s so scary?
