5 Ways You Can Turn Your Car into A Rolling Fortress

Cars mean a lot of different things to people. To some, it’s just a thing that takes them from somewhere to somewhere else. To others, it’s more like a pet, or a hobby, or even a part of the family. No matter how you look at your car, however, it’s one of the most expensive tools you have that can make your life both better, faster and more comfortable. If you take good care of it, it will most likely take good care of you.

There are some improvements you can make to see to it that your ride is just that little notch above the rest. We’ll show you, of course.

1: Soundproofing

Extreme Soundproofing...

Yay! We’ve talked a little about this before, and it doesn’t have to be the massive job that some shop owners and websites report it to be. In order to get a firmer, quieter car, all you need is a couple of these kits right here, a lot of patience, some tools and a mind set to experimentation.

Doors are your number one priority if you don’t want to strip out all the interior of your car. Take the interior panels off, and cover as much bare metal as you can – be careful with holes and wires, of course. When you’ve done all the doors, move on to the trunk, and if there’s an easy way to get access, do your firewall. Not on the engine side, of course.

When you’ve covered as much bare metal as you can, stuff any open space with this stuff – if you can, make it adhere to the dynamat (no, not “-mite”. “-MAT”). That will stop airborne sound waves.

Why?

Because a quieter car is generally a safer one. You’ll concentrate better, you don’t have to spend as much energy if you want to have a conversation, and less vibrations mean less chance of wear, both on you and things chafing inside doors, etc. This is also the least expensive DIY you can do on any car, to both make it feel better and work better.

Also, your sound system will sound that much more awesome once you’re done. It’s a two in one!

2: Bullet Proof Tires!

I love these. They’re also known as “run-flat tire systems”, and even though they won’t make your tires bullet proof (bullets will still go through them) they make the bullets fairly useless. Running on flat tires isn’t a good idea for very long, and so these things are there to make sure that your tires won’t go flat. Get it?

At under 90 bucks a pop, they’re going to be just a little bit more expensive than the soundproofing, but they’ll work wonders for your peace of mind. No more getting stuck with flat tires, no matter what has happened. Run over a bunck of nails on your way to your cabin in the woods? No problem. Some feisty cop tried the old “shoot out the tires” trick? No problem. Bad ex who thinks it’s a good idea to stick a blade in your tires just because you’re nailing that blonde, long-legged friend of hers? No problem at all. you’ll still be able to take your squeeze home while your ex is left muttering obscenities in the bushes.

These have also been tested in racing, so you can run from that ex really fast. Or the cops. Or the mob. Whatever.

Why?

Because bitches be crazy. In uniform or out of them.

3: Shatterproof Windows

Shattered Window: Not Your Friend.

But…don’t all cars have those now? Well.. yes, they do. But only the windshield. The rest of the windows are usually just normal, tempered glass, ready to spray the inside of your car with flying, sharp-edged death.

Tempered glass is awesome, but it’ll still shatter if you hit it either hard enough or with the right tool.

There’s two ways you can go about this. Either, you pay a fortune to have the manufacturer of your car come up with some windows for you (they do exist, you know), or you do it yourself, with this stuff. The DIY route is as risky as always, but it’s still the cheapest way to go. If you’ve got a steady hand, some extra cash and tools, you can absolutely pull it off with something like this, for example.

The downside? Rescue workers will have a harder time getting in if you roll your ultra silent, bullet proof tired car. But hey, you only live once anyway, right?

Why?

This will protect you in a number of ways. First, carjackers won’t have a chance at breaking the glass and getting to you. Or at least, you’ll have time to get away, since the glass will just blister and crack instead of disintegrate at the slightest touch.

What’s more, you can laugh at rocks coming off trucks, or feel confident (well, more confident) when leaving your car in dodgy neighborhoods… which is something you shouldn’t do, of course. We know you’d never do that… but still. Or, you could always go all out with this…

4: Bullet Proof Seats

Titanium: It's Your Friend

This is pretty neat. Most new police cars these days have reinforced seat backs that will keep the driver and a front seat passenger from stabbings and bullets, but for obvious reasons, this isn’t the case with normal, civilian vehicles. Bing shot by some thug while you’re driving way – possibly that same one who tried to carjack you and couldn’t get through your window?

Anyway. The idea is to make your seat your bulletproof vest, by reinforcing it with something along the lines of this. Titanium plates are relatively light, and can withstand just about anything that is likely to hit you inside a car. Get someone to put this inside your seat, a few inces below the top of the seat, or do it yourself if you’re good with needle and thread. You can also get more of them, if you think one isn’t enough to cover your vital bits.

Why?

Because it literally stops bullets from an AK-47. Think of the bragging rights you’ll have. Also… it stops bullets. That’s good too.

Basics:

There’s a lot of things you could do to improve your car’s security, but this time we’ve focused on you and your comfort. Sound deadening not only improves security, it will protect you from heat, vibrations, noise, improve your audio and make for a generally smoother ride.

Our tip? Start at the top of the list, and work your way down. It’s best that way.
