Police and firefighting departments are reporting one of the calmest celebrations in a long time. Extensive campaigning, extensive new law implementation regarding fireworks, financial crisis, extreme sales of smoke detectors have all played a big part in making the passage into 2009 an all time injury- and fire damage low. In Norway, that is.

Sweden reports otherwise. Damage from fireworks, in particular rockets, several cases of spousal abuse, blind violence, damages done by other culprits than fire and so on. Several children were injured and a school was damaged.
