Facebook + Police + Violent Crime = Busted

Police forces sometimes have trouble pushing through the technology barrier – look at all the “white collar” crimes committed by use of the internet, fraud, scams, rip-offs and the likes go on unhindered due to budget constraints, implementation problems when trying to introuce high-tech tools and a whole bunch of other obstacles.

In Stavanger, Norway however, police actively use social networking sites like Facebook (let’s not forget MySpace, LinkedIn and so on) to dig up proof of crimes, tips of ongoing ones and documentation of crime patterns. Recently, videos of violent assaults by a gang of youths surfaced on Facebook, and led to the arrest of the perpetrators.
