Amazon’s Breaking & Entering

All right, that might be a bit too strong a wording, but after this Friday, it’s not too far off either.

Amazon has seen fit to delete several books from its customers’ Kindle devices lately, last in line was an apparently unauthorized version of Orwell’s “1984” and “Animal Farm”. Amazon’s defence is that the version was uploaded to their store by a company that did not have the rights or permission to do so – in itself some food for thought about Amazon’s internal control routines.

Some versions of Harry Potter books, and the works of Ayn Rand have also been remotely deleted from devices by Amazon, and this trespass has not been welcomed by the customers who paid in good faith for their “e-books”.

It may be noted that from now on, vendors will break into your home and take your merchandise back if it is shown to be less than original. Not.
