Please a security guard… II

Well, in this case not a security guard, but a cop.

State police officer Bert Lopez (New Mexico) was fired after being caught by security cameras while having sex with a woman on the hood of her Honda in the vicinity of remote Canyon Ranch. Also, a chihuahua witnessed the event (rather close up, as you can all see from the photo).

Lopez is a decorated police officer, having gone “above and beyond” in the line of duty – a trend he keeps up, apparently. Lopez was also named officer of the year in 2009.

The eight-year veteran was put on paid administrative leave after security camera photographs of the encounter at the remote county-owned Canyon Ranch near Santa Fe surfaced several weeks ago.

The images were initially sent to state police by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department and an internal investigation was started.

Reports have been a bit confusing – one UK paper got the name wrong, and deceased officer Burt Lopez was allegedly the officer in question, something which was debunked rather quickly.

Despite having received recognition for his service in the past, Lopez has had a string of bad luck, it seems, after losing a suspect from custody, and not showing up to a number of cases in which he has been the arresting officer, with the result that these cases will be dismissed. Sources say that he hasn’t been on patrol these last four weeks, and one is left to wonder how he came to find himself “in the middle of nowhere”, having sex with a woman on the hood of a Honda.
