Bouncers Charged with Assault – with the bad comes the good

Cryptic headline, isn’t it?

Five bouncers have to make their case in court in Australia, after allegedly beating a 19-year old (or 29 year old?) clubber after evicting him from the Ivy club in Sidney.

So what’s good? Well, the club was facing a temporary closure notice after the assault, and agreed to change security company, amongst other things, in return for the withdrawal of that. So a company that was apparently filled with thugs loses business. That’s a good thing. Also, the club may be facing stricter licensing regulations, which will be a nice warning to other venues that employ “over-active” bouncers, that they should perhaps look for someone else to man their doors. So there’s two good things, at least, aside from the fact that these guys have to face criminal charges.

There’s nothing good about someone being assaulted of course, but looking at what came of this, there’s reason to believe that similar occurrences will be few and far between in Sidney from now on. The real raisin here, however, is something we’ve talked about (and the comment field went wild) on a couple of earlier occasions – supervision of the security industry.
